Updated: Jul 29, 2022

Create special memories while teaching your kids how to analyze and enjoy poetry!

Analyzing, memorizing and enjoying poetry is an important part of teaching Language Arts. It improves verbal skills and memory, it strengthens reading comprehension, encourages critical thinking and develops empathy and insight with various with diverse points of view and culture.

As homeschool moms, we're always trying to create memorable moments and make learning special. What better way to do that than with tea & poetry? That is actually how we started our co-op! We wanted an excuse to get together and a source of inspiration.

We can now reminisce on the many poems that we analyzed and enjoyed during tea. We started with themed teas based on the books that we were reading: "Mary Poppins Tea", "Mad Tea Party" etc.

We even enjoyed, historical, cultural and holiday themed tea parties and its corresponding poetry. We learned so much about tea culture all over the world and expanded our knowledge of international poets!

“As homeschool moms, we're always trying to create memorable moments and make learning special. What better way to do that than with tea & poetry?”

Looking back, our kids have analyzed and memorized close to 45 poems! We focused on one poem a month, with a total of 7 poems per school year. We wanted to make sure it was attainable, so we took our time. It's been beautiful to see our kids flourish and express themselves through this rich art form. We cherish every memory and encourage you to start creating memories of your own! Start small and simple and grow from there if you wish! Don't miss out on the flexibility you have as homeschoolers.
